What’s Inside
🛋 Where Everyone Ends Up — Living + Dining
A warm log cabin built around shared rooms — the kind where the family ends up gathered without anyone planning it. Open living, deep leather couches, gas fireplace, and the river table in the dining nook. Strong Wi-Fi and Smart TVs throughout — the kind that mostly stay off, except for cartoons in the morning and shows at night.
🍳 The Heart of the Cabin — Built for Real Cooking
The room guests tell us they end up spending most of their time in.
✓ Handcrafted 8-foot black walnut river table, commissioned from a local maker, set up for family meals
✓ Fully stocked: pots, pans, knives, baking and serving pieces
✓ Drip coffee, Keurig, electric water kettle (because the morning coffee question matters)
✓ Dishwasher, microwave, full-sized refrigerator, range
✓ The Pay-It-Forward pantry — see Meet Beata, below
🎮 The Rainy-Day Rooms (and Most Evenings, Too)
✓ Classic arcade games, foosball, board games, Wii
✓ A lofted reading and play nook with books, toys, and comfortable seating for the littles
✓ The space guests reach for when the weather doesn’t cooperate — and on most evenings even when it does
🛏 Where Everyone Sleeps Well — Main Log Cabin
✓ Bedroom 1: King bed
✓ Bedroom 2: King bed
✓ Bedroom 3: Custom bunk — Twin XL over Queen, with Twin XL trundle
✓ Bonus sleeping: Two comfy folding twin beds in the basement (better than a sofa bed — teenagers sleep better)
✓ Three full bathrooms
🏡 A Quiet Retreat — The Guest Cottage
A separate structure next to the main cabin. Works well for grandparents who want their own slow morning, for a second family unit needing privacy, or for a couple traveling with the group but wanting a small retreat of their own.
✓ King bed
✓ Queen sleeper sofa in the living area
✓ Full kitchenette
✓ Full bathroom
What’s Outside
🌊 The River — Yours, Just Steps Away
The whole reason to come here. The Ararat runs along the back of the property, and the path from the cabin is yours.
✓ Direct private riverfront access on the Ararat River
✓ A steep natural path from the cabin down to the water — fishing, wading, stone-skipping, or just listening
✓ Adirondack chairs along the river bank
✓ Steep natural grade in both directions; the riverbed is slippery — water shoes recommended
✓ The riverbank is a shared natural feature with neighboring properties, and you’ll likely see other guests there in warmer months. The path itself is yours.
🏊 The Pool — May 10 Through September 10
Summer’s the season. Mornings on the deck, afternoons by the water, kids in the pool until they’re tired.
✓ Seasonal unheated in-ground pool, open May 10–September 10
🛁 The Hot Tub — Where Most Evenings End
Year-round. Most evenings end here, regardless of the season.
✓ Heated year-round, overlooking the river
✓ Adirondack chairs nearby for the in-between moments
🍖 The Charcoal Grill
When summer dinner moves outside, the charcoal grill on the back patio is where it happens.
✓ Charcoal grill on the back patio
✓ Charcoal is part of the Pay-It-Forward — use what's there, leave what you don't, bring your own if you run out
🔥 The Fire Pit — For Nights the Talk Runs Long
Wood-burning, riverside, Adirondack seating. Bring marshmallows and someone willing to keep the fire fed.
✓ Wood-burning fire pit with Adirondack seating along the riverbank
✓ Firewood is not provided — bring your own or gather the twigs and branches you find
🎢 The Adventure Tower — Built for the Young and Young at Heart
Not a playground. A custom-built multi-level outdoor experience — bridges, swings, slides, and high decks where adults end up with a drink while the kids run.
✓ Elevated decks, bridges, swings, slides, and open-air platforms
✓ Built for kids and adults to play together — not separately
✓ Private on-property disc golf course
✓ Cornhole and yard games
Location & Nearby
📍 Wooded, Riverfront, Quiet — The Setting
Heavily wooded 3-acre lot along the Ararat River. The house is set close to the river and back from the road — so when you’re at the cabin, you mostly hear water and wind. The trees do most of the privacy work. The property line at the rear is shared with neighbors who you’ll likely see at their side of the river in warmer months. Though not fully secluded, you’ll still feel like you walked into your own wooded river paradise.
📍 2.5 Miles to Main Street, Mount Airy — the Real-Life Mayberry
Mount Airy is Andy Griffith’s hometown, and downtown Main Street is the Mayberry he grew up in. A 5-minute drive from the cabin gets you:
✓ Main Street shops, antique stores, and the Andy Griffith Museum
✓ Local restaurants — diners, small-plates spots, breweries
✓ The Andy Griffith Playhouse and the Mayberry Trolley
✓ Several regional wineries within 15–30 minutes
📍 A Day Out — When You Want to Wander
✓ Pilot Mountain State Park — ~20 minutes south, hiking the famous knob
✓ The Blue Ridge Parkway — 32 minutes, scenic drives and overlooks
✓ Surry County back roads, vineyards, and quiet hikes within an hour
Most guests come for the cabin and treat Main Street as a half-day or a dinner out. The home is the trip; Mayberry is the side adventure you’ll be glad you took.
Meet Your Host Beata
HI! I’m Beata. I designed Riverside Memories personally — the river table, the Adventure Tower, the cottage layout, the kitchen, every nightstand and charging station — and I personally manage every reservation. You’ll get fast automated help on the small things (Wi-Fi password, hot tub instructions, garbage day) so nothing waits. Anything that matters, you’re talking to me — not a cohost, not a call center, not a virtual assistant.
A note about the Pay-It-Forward pantry. We stock the kitchen with spices, staples, and the things the last family didn’t finish — coffee, dried pasta, baking supplies, the random good hot sauce. The rule is simple: take what you need, leave what you can. You give a little and get a lot! It works because the guests who stay here are the kind of people who do both. Guests tell us it’s the thing they didn’t know they needed, and end up loving most.
Happy to have you.
— Beata

About the Owner
Hi, I'm Beata. I've been hosting guests for over a decade, and I designed every room of Riverside Memories personally — every nightstand and charging station, the river table, the Adventure Tower, the cottage layout. I also personally manage every reservation. When something matters during your stay, you're talking to me, not a cohost or a call center. I think about vacations a specific way: they're the rare time you actually get to put some of your daily load down. So I design every property in our small portfolio around a single question — how do I want my guests to feel? At Riverside Memories, the answer is: slow down, be in the same place as the people you brought, and make memories you can't manufacture at home. Happy to have you. — Beata
